Equal parts ambitious and disastrous. A few of the most baffling and hilarious scenes filled with bizarre dialogue and line delivery sandwiched between a plot-less, meandering slog.
Aubrey Plaza and Shia LaBeouf give two fun performances but, despite the star power of the rest of the cast, this film contains some really weird performances aswell.
I love that this film exists and will probably watch it again, but not for the reasons that Francis Ford Coppola probably wants.
One giant swing, and an even bigger miss.

The first act was incredible. Eggers captures an unsettling, dream-like atmosphere very well, making the first half of this film feel often like a waking nightmare.
A brilliant cast is complemented by incredible set and costume design as well as impeccable cinematography. Standout performances come from Lily-Rose Depp and (of course) Willem Dafoe.
At times the film borders on camp which I enjoyed, but this tone wasn't consistent enough for me to know if it was intentional or not.
