Holyyyyy f*ck (pun intended)! This movie was a wild ride and it was awesome. I think the fact that I saw Immaculate a week before and was very underwhelmed might have me rating this higher, but it’s hard not to compare. This film however, was shot better, written better, performed better, and was a whole lot scarier. Left the theater both obsessed with Nell Tiger Free’s performance and genuinely unnerved. Now I’m feeling the strong urge to watch the original. Will report back.
Something about this movie feels rushed to me. It’s very frustrating watching this and like 10% of the sets are practical. I definitely blame the studio though and not the creative team, because it is very evident how much heart went into this film. Really heart felt writing, solid performances all around, and the musical score and soundtrack are superb!!
The first and third acts of this movie are pretty great and are definitely the best showcasing of Ant-Man’s powers out of his whole trilogy. However, the second act is literally some of the worst screen time in all of the MCU. The weird training montage that casually shoves in Janet and Hanks backstory, Scott and Hope romantic tension, Hope hating Hank, how ants work, Hope forgiving Hank, and the Quantum Realm lore all back to back with no through lines to each other is such garbage that I have hated this otherwise good movie since 2016.
This movie was awesome. One of the best original slashers I have ever seen, the action in this movie was so brutal I could actually believe the actors were getting the crap beat out of them. Writing was a little weak, but the film was so tense I wasn’t even paying attention. Gideon Adlon and Beth Million both proved themselves to have strong Scream Queen potential. HIGHLY recommend to all slasher fans.
