Strikingly charming and an interesting contrast to other European film movements of the era such as neorealism. Nothing really occurs as it should and almost always occurs for the sake of the spectacle and an ongoing pursuit of directorial risk. The dialogue is clever especially considering that the vast majority of the lines are non sequiturs. The natural charisma of the two central actors greatly aids the film in roles that are not afforded much by way of emotional display. Cinematography is excellent. Greatly enjoyed this film and wish it was more widely available.

Incredible character study. Amazing performance by De Niro and directing by Scorsese. I was very impressed by the execution of the ending and was captivated all throughout the film.
