Look ima be real I did not resonate with this AT ALL for the first 40 minutes or so. But after a while it clicked. It was interesting to see how Obayashi balanced feelings of post-Hiroshima grief and cognitive immobility with the otherwise light hearted tonality of the front end of the film. If you are not ready to embrace the imaginative and somewhat surrealist imagery, you’re gonna hate this shit. I guess it’s one of those movies that I enjoy but it someone were to tell me that they despised it, I can visualize exactly how viewing experience went.
