I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere and the sense of mystery this film built. The detective-driven approach to the Ripper case worked very well for me.
However, the plot loses its way a bit towards the end. A romantic subplot becomes overly cheesy for my liking, and the dramatic, over-the-top reveal of the Ripper feels jarring, undermining the mysterious tone that had been carefully established throughout.
This move was OK.
Jokes were not that funny, but just because of Schwarzenegger’s delivery with his heavy German accent, I had to laugh out loud during some scenes—I don’t have a tumoooaaar.
Starts off as a rather boring action movie, then becomes a romantic comedy, only to come full circle with an over-the-top bloody action-packed standoff that will traumatize poor little Dominic for the rest of his life.
Saw it again in IMAX—what a masterpiece! It did feel a bit long in some parts, but that might just be because it was my second viewing.
Watched this in the cinema with my mom, sister, and 50 other horny white women. Made me realize these movies are peak white woman culture, but loved it though.
