  what is the point? i completely fail to understand why this remake needs to exist. Herzog's remake is suffocatingly self-evident, Eggers's drowns in its own wake.

  slog. some shots could be made into pretty wallpapers, though.

  it fixes most of the problems with modern horror movies and then creates a few, i guess. probably the first horror movie where i didn't really know what i was supposed to be scared of? and not in a lovecraftian sort of way, but in a way where the "horror" of the film really has no rules or backstory or anything for me to dread. and you have to suspend your disbelief a lot, basically every character makes ridiculous decisions…
