The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a 1920s silent horror film that began the expressionist movement in Greman cinema. The story is about the mad Dr. Caligari and his hypnotized henchman Cesare. The crazed doctor uses and commands Cesare to terrorize and murder his victims. The film's main strengths is in it's visuals; particlarly the art direction and the cinematography depicting light and shadow. The setting and overall mood looks and feels distorted and dreamy. When I first watched Dark City, I watched the theatrical cut first to get a taste of the film. Beforehand, I've heard about Dark City, but only in small portions.
