Unnecessary. The main word I think of when I was watching this film. When I saw the first and noticed not everything added up in terms of timelines, I could care less because it was a standalone film. Great film. But not as good as Fury Road. The world building was phenomenal. I haven’t seen a film where I have felt so involved with where the film was taking place. My only problem was the runtime. At three hours, the film seemed to be around 4. I even glanced at my watch a couple times only to find out I still had an hour and a half left. I think the main thing that contributed the most to this was just the back and forth between landmarks like bullet town and the citadel even though we had been there multiple times already.
This film has to be one of the greatest ever made. Not due to the visual effects or sound design, but due to the level of character building accomplished in runtime available. The young men in the film are not just ordinary characters but personify the very soul and mind of most teenage men in America. When I first finished the film and I saw the crazy ending, I was left on satisfied because I wanted to know what would happen next.
