Text I sent in the gc just after watching- “What the god’s honest fuck did i just watch like actually”

Interestingly enough though, while it seems a lot of people read this as a critique on beauty standards I was focused more on the “substance” part- it seemed pretty clearly like a metaphor for substance abuse, where eventually you get so out of control it consumes you. The part where Elisabeth is literally withering away with the option to stop but she wouldn’t to “protect” Sue was jarring and real in that perspective.

Wowwww. This was incredible. I’m a sucker for historical films and having known very little about the military dictatorship era in Brazil this was a super interesting watch- insofar as it portrayed an extremely real and emotional family story with the backdrop of the events of the dictatorship.

why am I in fucking tears over this. I watched brooklyn like right after it came out when I was 15 or so before having gone to college and subsequently having lived abroad for 16 months. this hit different. beautiful love story that grapples tragedy, homesickness, and cultural differences. Needed an Irish movie to watch after St Patrick’s Day and Saoirse Ronan as always you delivered. And you’re a nice Irish girl who got a hot Italian-in-movie-Jewish-IRL husband, what more could a girl want.
    I love this movie

This was really good! Timothee Chalamet is amazing- I just went back and watched some clips of Bob Dylan at the time and the way he got his voice, mannerisms, and candor down is really impressive. The actress who played Joan Baez was also really good, and why do I want to hug Pete Seeger so bad?!

Interesting story and made me really wish I was living in the village in the early 60’s, damn.
