    It seems impossible to watch this movie and not read it as an allegory for living as a person of economic privilege in the modern world; how a life of ease and comfort can seem earned, and beautiful, while the cost of that ease and comfort lies hidden, out of view (but not, crucially, out of earshot), warping lives and psyches. In an Oscar season dominated by bombastic, maximalist epics such as Oppenheimer and Poor Things, this film stands out by standing back. Restrained, controlled, cold, but undeniably affecting.
