I decided it was about time I revisited the films of Andrei Tarkovsky. After all, he did become my favourite director after only viewing each of them one time. I've also started reading Tarkovsky's (kinda) auto-biography, Sculpting in Time. The chapters aren't one-a-film, and it isn't structured entirely as an analysis of each one, however they are mentioned in chronological order. The first chapter therefore, which I read earlier today, gives great insight into the creative process behind Ivan's Childhoood.…

Amazing stunwork, as always, and comedy that still stands up to this day. The practical effects in this particular film were outstanding as well - I mean they burned a bridge down with a train driving over it. That final battle scene was tremendous! Excellent film.

As I have just started reading Andrei Tarkovsky's book 'Sculpting in Time', I decided to rewatch Stalker. As I have a flight tomorrow, I'm going to read 'Zona: on Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker' by Geoff Dyer. For me, Stalker is a comfort film; it is utterly engrossing all the way through, its cinematography mesmering and its soundtrack ethereal. Tarkovsky truly is greatest of all time.

Great film. I noted this time around just how intricate the set design and world-building is. One of the most immersive films I've seen probably. Really puts you right in the world that's being portrayed. A lot of small details to help paint a bigger picture and craft a deeply complex setting.

Who can forget the ceasefire scene? Amazing.
