Dead Poets Society 1989
A great example of how a film should be made. The characters were introduced properly and their stories left to unfold through details presented throughout the film. It was so easy to feel acquainted with these kids.
The pacing was spot on. It wasn't fast-paced like they were racing to fit as much information into the available time, and it wasn't too drawn out.

The Thing 2011
While the over-arching idea of an alien replicating humans is pretty neat and the graphical treatment of the replication process is cool, I couldn't get into this movie because of how idiotic the characters seemed to be. Not only were they stupid, but I felt like they were pretty shallow, as well. I couldn't become attached to any of them. Not even the main character.
