  Thought this was really good the first time, and on a rewatch it feels like a masterpiece. Every scene has insights, emotion, humor, beauty. Noticed a lot more intention with the shot compositions as well. They serve the narrative in really subtle ways. The whole thing looks loose and naturalistic but there’s so much going on.

  A sweeter, more optimistic and powerfully feminist version of Yorgos. Still has his signature visual panache (particularly love the stylized take on fin de siecle Europe) and frank sexuality. But Emma Stone isn’t completely off base in describing the movie as a rom com with Bella falling in love with love. And all of the praise for the acting is warranted, particularly Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo.
