In 89 minutes, Jesse Eisenberg says more about the post-Holocaust American immigrant experience than The Brutalist says in 215.

This lean feast is elevated by a strong ensemble of memorable supporting actors, with Kieran Culkin sucking all the air out of the room in a tornado of a performance that deserves every award it’s receiving.

I suspect this would make a killer double feature with Hard Truths. Come to think of it, that double feature would still be 29 minutes shorter than The Brutalist.

a beguiling setup grows frustratingly uneven as lily rose depp delivers a one-note performance, aaron taylor johnson pretends to be on pbs and willem dafoe crash-lands into the flick from another movie entirely. looks good though!

    doing more
    for the culture
    than BROS.

the first official gay hallmark movie is about as hallmark-cringe as you’d expect…until the third act monologue, where our gay hero explains to a straight how he’s scared of commitment because he grew up in a world where gays were told they could not get married so it was never an option until a few years ago. and the way i wept.
