What was that? Why is there a donkey in the hallway? Why are marathoners running backward? Who’s the guy with paint all over him? What do the Apollo missions have to do with this? Very, very distracting movie style that’s almost impossible to follow. Too bad as it’s a compelling story with characters thad you can empathize with.
Another horror film trying to make a point—this time about feminine aging. Not as effectives as “Get Out,” but still a good movie. Demi Moore turns in a performance reminiscent of Brendan Fraser in the “Whale”—a once was resurrecting a career with the help of a lot of CGI and makeup. The biggest downside is the needlessly gross ending, which really didn’t add anything.
This was an intense film. It was well-directed, well-acted, and well-filmed. I liked the characters and became invested in their storylines. What I don’t understand was why it was set in a fictionalized American civil war. That background seemed more distracting than anything. It just left me wondering what the point was at the end.
A virtuoso performance by Saoirse Ronan and stunning panoramic views of Scotland.
