Absolutely brilliant. The jazz works so well with the cinematography to depict the varied, upbeat, and to an extent sluggish nature of the darker side of NYC, while the slow burning nature of the character development serves to entrench the linear aspect of the film. De Niro was brilliant, appearing natural and unforced throughout, with the Arriflex 35 BL camera with Zeiss super speed lenses being the perfect choice to capture the film, its themes, and its story.

Bicycle Thieves 1948
Even compared to the rest of Italian neorealist cinema, the initial bike theft is a remarkably modern scene in its cinematography; the rest of the film is a little more formulaic and standard as far as post-war Italian films go, but nevertheless a good watch (certainly beats the revision I should be doing)
