When I heard that Robert Eggers was going to be directing a remake of Nosferatu I was absolutely confident he’d be the perfect choice. I was correct!
I found this latest version of the story to be completely gripping with fantastic design and brilliant performances all around. I thought everyone was perfectly cast in this, and Lily-Rose Depp, who I thought might be the weak link was really good. She fully commits to the very physical nature of her role. …
This is just a great family film from a bit of a golden era for that genre. John Candy is hilarious as the eponymous Uncle Buck and all the kids are brilliant too. It’s a great little 90 minute comedy from the brilliant John Hughes. You can really see how Macaulay Culkin’s performance in this would inspire Home Alone.
The Creator draws from many other films; Bladerunner, Star Wars, Platoon, The Golden Child, Akira, The Terminator, District 9 and loads more in a very unashamed way whilst also taking its place alongside them as a quality movie. Washington, who like his father is a very blank slate on screen really fits the Deckard role here. He’s never going to be the charismatic lead, but works well as a haunted man unable to overcome his past.
