Equal parts brilliant, funny and desperately sad. Totally got swept up in the first hour like a naive idiot. Then spent the next hour hoping there would still be a happy ending despite all evidence to the contrary (like a naive idyottt!!) The comedy was dark and uncomfortable, a bit like Triangle of Sadness where you find yourself laughing at something that is simultaneously hilarious and also deeply grim and unfunny. Brilliant soundtrack and no need for any score - often evidence that there's drama enough on screen without needing to force it with music. Great performances all round.
First of all shout out to the girl in the cinema wearing an Arsenal Oodie.
I should probably give this 4.5 stars because it's really good but I'm docking half a star for it being a MUSICAL and I'm sorry but I still think musicals are pretty naff!!
Cynthia Erivo is amazing, Ariana Grande is hilarious (but I wish they hadn't obviously overdubbed all her vocals), Michelle Yeoh is great but can't sing, Defying Gravity is a banger, there are a few too many songs, and is the university really called...Shizz?
Not sure how they're gonna pull off Part 2, it feels like it's already peaked...
Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum is a POWERFUL combination
Absolutely love to see Will Smith punch an alien in the head and say 'Welcome to earth'

Exactly the same as Alien except now there are Aliens plural (this is not a criticism). Alien whips, and so does Aliens.
