I comply with de and doid’s reviews here. A well acted tragic-romance, with funny and harrowing moments in somewhat alternating doses. Having slept on it, something was missing though - maybe script-wise or through the execution of the time-shuffling. I feel the closing scenes may have been executed more proficiently too.
Regardless, a good Monday watch.
It’s just cracking - but I have to hold up my review integrity so from a film standpoint it’s a 3.5.
Love Ryan - goat character
I have to comply with the community’s rating of Saltburn. While there are undoubtable plot holes (the third act in particular) and no redeeming qualities in the characters (apart from the Dad, I quite liked him), there were points where I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Ollie’s family twist genuinely surprised me, adding more to the sadistic character that slowly creeped up on us. The shocks were uncomfortable, the performances strong, and the concept enjoyable. For that, I award Saltburn a 3.5/5.
I just can’t begin to say how much I enjoyed this. Am I a chick flick man? Why did I cry? Do I love every film I watch and make an atrocious critic? I have many questions to answer after witnessing this epic feel-good love-story. No wonder it’s a classic
