    On Falling

This felt like a nail-biting disaster film where the disaster is simply the humiliation, fear and soul-destroying drudgery of being poor, with no way out in sight. It's also the first film I've seen that draws the Venn diagram where capitalism, poverty, loneliness and the suicide epidemic intersect.

On Falling should be required watching for every politician, every landlord, every boss, every boomer who thinks millennials have it easy, and every middle-class columnist whose advice to poor people is to cancel Netflix and eat porridge. What happens when you can't even afford those meagre "luxuries".

You start by thinking you’re watching a dark film about an abusive teacher; then you think you’re watching a film about a psychotic child; only to discover you’re watching something much more humane and beautiful and heartbreaking. I want to watch Monster again immediately.
