  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this. Super innovative storytelling and cinematography, ahead of it's time honestly. But I feel like this film is better for all that it's influenced than it is great standalone. You can see that George Lucas really liked this one. The Rashomon Effect is strong with this one.

  Also you can thank this film for the 2005 masterpiece "Hoodwinked!"

  I have never gotten so emotional watching a movie.

  Besides the absolute heart wrenching story, this movie is so so smart in the way it orders the scenes and dialogue. It is in my opinion a very near perfect example of using sequence to clarify the plot rather than making it stupidly obvious through direct dialogue and imagery.
