Perfect Blue 1997
Fucking mind twisting. Satoshi Kon’s work , his storytelling and animation made this film truly ahead of its time. Watching Perfect Blue the narrative constantly challenges the watchers perception of what is real. Satoshi Kon toys with the watchers sense of reality. He puts us in the state of the main protagonist , Mima , which is confusion and the feelings of confusion are transferred over to us. Which causes the difficulty of telling ‘what is real’ to ‘what is a dream’ and this was built up from the start of the film. This is a movie I could rewatch and still ask more questions.
