stunning ~ slow violence, edges of violent release that line the seams of every relation, the risk of some kind of annihilation stitching the characters together; the characters cross and watch each other cross into discrete landscapes of annihilation, restraining and releasing. all of the sprinting over ice and snow pack. brilliant acting. range rovers.
an intimate violence, eric seeking an emptiness that nurtures, activates, reciprocally.
i especially loved eric tossing a cop into the snow…
adrien brody always has my love. the musical score was wonderful jazz/klezmer/archival collage. beautiful claustrophobic opening sequence, maybe the last impactful moment in the film.
there were SO many problems with this film: no character development over the course of a three hour long film meant characters were only charicatures of "addiction," "immigrant jew," "closeted patrician," etc.; mostly yelling not acting; extraordinary passivity in dealing with class or racial politics; uninteresting ideas about how to protray beauty or evoke the…
