My kind of yap-fest. Another shining example of just what kind of ideas the 90s had to offer. A very pure indie film right up there with Kicking and Screaming and Slacker.

Bergman Binge #5
The pained artist torn between greatness and family is a tried-and-true formula. Sadly this story fails due to self absorption (to the point of making any kind of audience projection impossible) and miscasting. Bergman is still a few years away from finding his solid male muses. Some of the more tortured scenes sound nice on paper but are so poorly, poorly acted. Whereas later tragic heroes lament with a stoic sadness sprinkled with a touch of humor, this movies failure of a protagonist whines manically in every scene.
