  Undoubtedly, a cleverly constructed 2 hour long commercial: Barbie could be a potential gateway to make the uninitiated viewer familiar with feminist ideas. However, the Film only seems Deep at first glance as it shallowly taps into various social issues with no new thoughts arising. Funny at times, mainly due to the performances by Robbie and Gosling. Mattel has the nerve to openly admit their turbocapitalist agenda in an apparently successful attempt to both sell a product as well as to chum up to the haters by saying: „hey guys, we know we‘re bad.“ I am not sure whether this makes things better or even worse.
