With a title like “Gun Crazy” I expected a “B” movie experience. Glad I was disappointed. Though, the title doesn’t exactly describe the story unless you figure an enthusiasm for guns limits one scope for a livelihood to collecting, the circus or armed robbery. Lol. Anyways, this is a Bonnie and Clyde story but it’s not schlock. It’s well directed and acted. Even the score is good. Perfect for a date on a Friday night.
A tough film to watch. The story follows a boys to men scenario we’ve all seen in war movies. This movie does follow the exploits of events that are documented by the New York 69th regiment in WWI. For me the tough part was the fictional character created for this story. There’s nothing redeeming about Pvt. Plunket (James Cagney). Cold War theatrics about imagining the unimaginable. A metaphor of the human condition and disastrous consequences. A well put together screenplay that displays a 24hr period where an ominous disaster plays out among a small group of people with millions of lives at stake. First off, I’m a fan of Ray Harryhausen. I really enjoy his work and all the films he inspired as a kid. I distinctly remember when and where I first saw this film.
Hats off to whomever restored this film it looked great. The special effects for 1955 are pretty good with a few exceptions. Plus, the dialog is a bit thin (made for MST3K). I found myself making fun while watching (Tom Servo: “I love you Clock Tower.”). Also,…
