The desperation in this film is palpable. Tilda Swinton plays a dying woman battling ovarian cancer, and while her character desperately manipulates her estranged friend to be present as she nears death, the emotional connection between the two never truly lands. The chemistry between Swinton and Julianne Moore feels almost non-existent, and though this may be intentional, the supposed moments of intimacy between them feel forced, abrupt, and at times, uncomfortable. three stars because the lead actress did an amazing job. this movie had potential but it ended up dragging and i wish it would have put more emphasis on anora herself, not just the shit happening to her and around her. i wonder what this movie would have been like had a woman directed it.
