  One the best looking films of the year. A lot of creative choices elevate a small scale story to something crucial and larger than life. The first still out of Cannes (shown above) changed the trajectory of my life. Welcome back Ingmar Bergman. 
  The film isn’t a ton of noise, but in a perfect world Renate would be getting awards consideration. She wears the weight of the film on her body and facial expressions.

  The sound in this film insane, which is apparently done by the composer as Ichi the Killer.  I really liked this one.  It’s pretty unique, compared to the other, older stuff I’ve seen by Takashi Ito.

  Haneke’s films have a great, cold realism to them.  This one created a dark world in light colors, where the true darkness remains remains in the dark.  Here he explores control, desire and human nature.  I’ll keep my long analysis to myself but it’s definitely not a shallow, exploitative film.
