Oldboy, understandably, overshadows the rest of Park Chan-Wook’s thematic vengeance trilogy, but upon rewatch I think Lady Vengeance (AKA Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) is my personal favorite. It isn’t quite as shocking, but there is a perverse satisfaction you get watching the film’s particular brand of “vengeance” play out. Oldboy feels cruel and disproportionate, whereas Lady Vengeance feels clinical and more than justified.
