Obviously an A24 production, the fear and uncertainty induced in the audience with every twist amounts to a shocking final sequence. The beautiful song Reborn fully brings the movie to a close, leaving you with a sense of disturbing peace with angelic chords and satanic imagery.
A very good commentary on modern society. Creative cinematography with claustrophobic close-ups and sound design. The substance presents itself as a horror film for the first part, pushing the boundaries of disgust; once the film shifts into the perspective of the monster, its facade of shock-factor dissolves into unrealistic body horror emphasising the real message behind it. The ludicrous nature of body-image and social media normalising unrealistic standards is metaphorical in the tolerance of this monster by characters in the film. An impactful film which I recommend everyone to watch, a similar effect to Requiem for a Dream.
Good film, the world it built was intriguing and had the potential to be very different but let was down by the ending. Unlike parasite, it felt like a much more mainstream film which was afraid to shock the audience.
Not to say it was a bad film, just more suited to a tamer audience.
