  A Brighter Summer Day is a challenging and almost confusing watch. It’s a 3+ hour film full of melancholic long takes and an air of quietness. It’s not interested in holding your hand as the narrative progresses, and its themes gradually unravel and become clearer.

  “Everybody dies, and that’s life.”

  It’s becoming incredibly more clear to me that Perkins loves central framing. It’s glaringly obvious in this movie and it becomes distracting.

  Overall, this movie is fun with an audience! The beginning is very strong but it does start to fall apart towards the end. Great kills, good humor.
