A reliably dire John Cusack stars in a movie that thinks it’s ten times more intelligent than it thinks it is. The direction is competent although it does look like an early 90s film, and the acting is largely appalling with a twist so brutally forced it risks adding to the murder count. I feel it could have been good somehow but the screenplay ensures nobody will ever really talk about it ever again.

This is a horrendous, horrendous movie, with such a wasted cast and budget that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the worst element is. I “got” the message about tech and the direction of travel of humanity, although mixed and misdirected allusions to race and class watered it down. It seemed like one big advert for Netflix (oh look, Friends is still available!) who clearly aren’t short of money because this looks beautiful but I was checking the time several…
My traps got DOMS from shrugging so much during this from indifference. A step in the right direction but I stopped caring 4 sequels ago.
