The Manchurian Candidate 1962
This was ok but had a bunch of issues - Ol Blue Eyes kung fu fighting “Korean” Henry Sliva being one of them. It’s overlong and the screenplay droops a bit, Sometimes the cinematography is great while other times it’s pretty terrible and often the direction is bewildering. This was a bit disappointing and really made me want to watch the Denzel/Demme version again.

Adolescence 2025
This was great. At first I thought the one take thing would feel like a gimmick but it was used very effectively to constrain the narrative and build the tension and discomfort. Stephen Graham is fantastic. Highly recommended.

Devolution: A Devo Theory 2021
A really terrible doco that skips from Kent State to Freedom of Choice, ignoring the most interesting era of Devo. This is one of my favourite bands and this is a really poor documentary. It’s actually pretty infuriating that the filmmakers had access to the band and made something so banal. Garbage.

Of an Age 2022
Heartbreakingly beautiful coming of age film set against a late 90s suburban Australian backdrop that feels so real I can taste it. A masterful second feature from an incredible talent. I feel proud to have known and possibly helped Goran with his earliest filmmaking endeavours, and it was an absolute honour to share this premiere screening at the 70th MIFF opening tonight #proudfilmstepdad
