Did I stay up until 3 am crying after watching this movie? Yes. Am I ashamed to admit that? Not even a little. One of the best movies of modern cinema. Absolutely amazing from start to finish. The perfect mix of comedy and emotion. The score is beautiful. The performances were extraordinary—Ke Huy Quan, holy shit, Michelle Yeoh, holy shit. Not to mention the visuals, HOLY SHITTTT. A24 is saving independent cinema.

I understand the message this movie was trying to convey, but ultimately, it was executed poorly. Both characters are unbearable and have no depth to them. Idgaf about the story of him overdosing, and why it matters to David so much is never gone through—except for one scene where it comes out of nowhere at the table with the entire group and ultimately makes no sense. I’ve never been the biggest fan of musicals but I can appreciate a good one when I see one. This is a movie I could watch time and time again. Amazing cast and the chemistry between them is fantastic. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande do such an amazing job. Besides La La land, I haven’t appreciated a newer musical as much as I have this one. I will definitely be watching the second one and I hope it can impress me as much as this one did.
