One teacher takes it upon herself to protect a child prodigy's poetic gift, putting herself in an extreme conflict with his parents' wishes. The lengths she goes to . . . well, you have to watch this film. Maggie Gyllenhaal is wonderful, as usual. My heart was torn over the film's resolution.

Phenomenal. Anatomy of a Fall is a film that defies category. Domestic drama. Murder mystery. Courtroom drama. Loss of innocence. Incredibly well-written and superbly performed. I was engrossed from beginning to end. The title is accurate: the key event begins the autopsy of a family that yields discovery after surprising discovery. And wow. Just wow. Sandra Huller's performance is masterful. Get ready for your heart to experience a range of emotions.

One of my favorite directors and one of my favorite actors made a film that debuted on Netflix. And you can tell. Basic and slow. (And slow does not imply the events of the movie needed to move faster. It means the storytelling was poorly paced.) My heart wanted to be into it. But was not.
