Takeshi the ol' softie satirizing his own career with silent-era gags and sketch comedy...feels like home.

fucking madman Eisenstein was. Every shot, every scene is entirely radical, managing every bit of the marching propaganda from Strike & Potemkin while one of the most earthen and beautiful films ever. The level of imagination it would take to do something as audacious and as genuinely insane as the cow god sequence in a film as politically driven as this one proves by itself how legendary he & his team truly were. The purest possible cinema. How this isn’t held with his other masterpieces (all of them) is just mad.

Genuinely might be my favourite Cronenberg - a haunting wail on ideas on art, exploitation, excess, love, the terrors of transition, and how confronting our own filth may be the way forward, to something happier, something more pleasurable, the 'new sex'. That final image might just be the most powerful in this old master's career.
