"I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

Luke Skywalker is the embodiment of the good that was Anakin Skywalker. He is the product of Anakin's love with Padme, and he prevailed and resisted the dark side and the emperor when Anakin could not. He is the new hope that helped the chosen one destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force.

George Lucas's goofy Star Wars (which we see much more of in the prequels) starts here…

The acting is abysmal and the story is slower than the drive through Bow Street. I found Myers uninteresting, seeing as he does not speak, and has no motive other than he's evil. He just stands around breathing, and then strikes in the most predictable manner possible.

Perhaps in 1978 the nudity and murder was a shock, but nowadays the film really shows its age (a testament to our generation?)

The only good thing is that it's only 1 hour and 30 minutes long.

This is one of those films that everyone MUST watch before they die. It's funny, it's sad, and it's most profoundly wise. The lessons taught here not only enlighten us on the second half of the twentieth century, bringing light to issues that most would rather leave swept under the rug, but it also teaches us invaluable lessons for life.
