Legitimately not worth a watch. Huge waste of 205 minutes.
Within the first 5 minutes of the film, the cheesy acting, awful script, poor editing, and half-baked storyline were already apparent. Somewhere deep down I hoped it would improve, but it didn’t. Within 15 minutes, the plot of the movie was already embarrassingly obvious, as much as we hoped there would be a nice twist. Fantastic film that can be enjoyed at the depth of duality of man or simply a surface-level fun sci-fi flick. Thematics felt a mixture of Fallout’s retro-futuristic vibes with a hint of Lemony Snicket’s ridiculousness.
Unfortunately the film felt weighed down by an unnecessary focus on sexual themes and an over-the-top ridiculous main character. It was also just about 30 minutes too long… which, ironically, would have been solved by dropping the sexual themes and much of the ridiculousness of the resolution.
This is my hands-down favorite movie. I know it’s not for everyone, but every aspect of this film is beautiful in its own respect to me. Jonsí has built a soundtrack that so accurately captures the essence of this movie that I am astounded every time I listen to it. The script and acting develops characters quickly and passionately.
