Really enjoyed the opening and premise.
Hot take - would have been so much better without the aliens. They drew attention away from the actual concept, being the experimentation and dehumanisation of Mickey as a human, and his fight against the system. The creepers didn't contribute anything to that, besides diverting the antagonists' (and the audience's) attention from our main character.

How did it come to this?
This film feels like a tacky, fan-made recreation of Two Towers. The best elements of the story, art and score are all that which are pulled directly from Peter Jackson's film also about the nation of Rohan fleeing invaders from dunland as their ageing king is supplanted, and then holding out at Helm's deep until a cavalry charge of previously scorned Rohirrim return at the last moment to save the day.Visually, just felt like a cheap attempt at Miyazaki's style. But without the elegance.
