Mrs. Miniver 1942
Probably the WWII propaganda movie that works best as propaganda. Raises civilian efforts to heroism on par with soldiers and really spells out as plain as day to the soldiers watching in camp what the stakes are. All thanks to a really every woman performance by Garson.

The Portrait of a Lady 1996
I admire Campion for not softening the source material, but she also doesn’t try to recreate the harder edge the story would’ve had to 19th century readers. Everyone other than Kidman seems about 10-15% less intense than they should be.
