    A strong first half that starts to become too clever for its own good. Weaving through a pretty interesting story at its core by purposefully presenting it as mundane is a worthwhile concept, but I don’t feel it entirely works when put into practice. I can respect what the Coens are trying to do here, though. They are always so good at exaggerating genres.

    Had almost no knowledge of the musical prior to this, but found this pretty enjoyable. Charming, good acting, and memorable songs. By far my favorite aspect were the practical set pieces and animatronics. Clearly, a lot of care went into this.

    It is a little long and not entirely my cup of tea, but I would see part 2.

    A unicycle on a string type movie. Imagine if the Safdies and Steve McQueen made a slapstick rom-com re-telling of a Disney princess that would unexpectedly veer into dramatic class study. I just never know where things are going in a Sean Baker movie.

    Red Rocket still remains my favorite of his films, as I think it’s more distinctly unique, but this is a really strong entry in the filmography.
