Regardless of your own personal D&D knowledge, I think most people would find this to be an enjoyable movie. It has exciting and well-choreographed action scenes; humor that both works on its own as well as plays off of the fantasy world and its inhabitants; and great performances by the main cast (Michelle Rodriguez being a personal standout). However, if you do happen to have the context of playing in a D&D campaign before, all of these things will be…
Perfect blend of social commentary and absurdist humor. Leaning too much in either direction could have left the film feeling too preachy or facetious, but the script was tonally balanced throughout its entirety. I really enjoyed it.
Really fun but maybe 30-minutes too long. Plenty of non-essential scenes that could have been cut to emphasize more impactful ones. I'd say much of the third act fell flat compared to the rest of the film. Great performances from the entire cast — Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt especially domineered each of their respective roles.
