It may seem incredibly niche but there’s tons of global lessons and values demonstrated in this film, “sometimes when things get complacent they die” will be on my mind forever. I had to watch this twice, once thinking about my own life and how the lessons apply, once to actually appreciate the dancing and soul. The second watch made me think I should get into line dancing cause it seemed so much fun, even though I have no rhythm. Really appreciated this documentary.

For the first half i was like damn these are great edits and splicing of footage and then they kinda stopped doing that, which is very real.

The movie itself was good too, but I was looking for further understanding of Iranian culture and the movie could have been made (really well!) about any country and immigrant.

Finally watched this after listening to Norm Macdonald rave about it in various interviews. I’m glad I waited to watch it until I was fully sold otherwise I might’ve given up on the movie mid way, alcoholic deadbeat dad isn’t a very relatable main character for me.

I mostly related to Rosa Lee and Sonny although I’m closer in age to the aspiring musician fanboys. Speaking of, I really enjoyed the music! The recurring theme “it hurts to face reality” was beautiful and the scene with Mac going through chords was shot so neatly that it counts as getting guitar lessons from Robert Duvall.
