This time around I spent a lot of time thinking about how all the characters in the first half are not things that Diane is dreaming about but aspects of her subconscious that are interacting with each other, or possibly other spiritual forces drifting in and out of Diane's dream. I love this movie so much!

Perfect Days 2023
The title of the film poses a question: what makes a perfect day? And then, through gently following Hirayama's ritualistic routines we get hints and gestures at possible answers. For the first half, it feels like Wenders might have a fairly simple answer, the same answer as Ecclesiastes: "eat, drink, and find satisfaction in your toil." The silent, smiling Hirayama of the first hour feels like a Zen master who knows the secret of the good life.

Gladiator II 2024
Performances are great, and some of the set pieces are really fun. I got chills in the "strength and honor" scene. But this script really needed a couple more passes - Lucius's character arc doesn't really make sense, and a lot of the plot elements feel half-baked. A fun time nonetheless!
