Definitely John Carpenter, although an early example of his work. As always for films Carpenter scored, the soundtrack is absolutely bangin' and is the highlight of the film for me.

Imagine one of the worse porn intros you've seen, but it's 70 minutes long and the porn never happens. I had heard DeCoteau films were plotless but I was unprepared for just how little occurred during the length of this movie. Due to what I can only assume was lack of budget for moulage, the supposedly dead characters appear to have merely fallen asleep. Whoever obtained the B-roll seems to have had a hard time holding the plot as settings…
Yamato starts out very much like Titanic, and carries on very much like Titanic. This isn't too bad, but it's definitely not great.
This film has a few things going for it. The seemingly full-scale set of the Yamato grants tremendous energy and drama to the epic battle scene late in the film. The lead characters are well-developed and sympathetic, and the choice to focus on low-level enlisted men instead of the ship's officers gives a perspective that really emphasizes…
