  I guess if this gets people to see The King of Comedy then it’s not just a shallow provocation (with a really devoted Phoenix performance not worthy of the film it’s in).

  
  The key to understanding this film is by watching Phillips documentary about GG Allin, whom Phillips was kind of obsessed with. Allin is the kind of Uber-edge lord Phillips idolizes and this is the movie that results.
