Basic Instinct 1992
At least in his smut-peddling European days Verhoeven had some coherent points to make about coming-of-age, toxic relationship, or religious represiveness. In Hollywood he doubled down on nudity and provocativeness, upped his bombasticness, but lost any substance. This movie is so busy breaking next taboos on the screen, that viewed these days with every taboo now the most obvious, corporate background noise, there is left nothing aside from garbage plot, ridiculous ending, occasional witty retort in the script, and a nice chemistry between the leads. Though I must claim, Goldsmith's score is absolutely outstansing. Steamy, claustrophobic, and more erotic than any vulgar line written by Eszterhas.

Personal Shopper 2016
Perfectly delineated and understated story, even more masterfully directed; not sure. Incomplete, interrupted, smooth; still not sure. Kristen Stewart, frumoasă.. that's for sure
