The very last thing that was played before the movie, after all the trailers, was a commercial for Sensodyne toothpaste. I was furious because I knew that this meant I would spend much of the film’s runtime contemplating scenarios for the Sensodyne Cinematic Universe (SensoVerse). Every tooth in the mouth is a city, receding gums are a metaphor for climate change somehow, etc. But I was locked in to Challengers immediately. It’s sexy, smart, and stars a cast that all practice great oral hygiene. A career best performance for Zendaya, the kind of actor who would really immerse herself in the role of Floss.
