The genre shifting felt annoying and like the movie was trying to be too many things, until you realize the genre isn’t all these individual things but instead just “50s Hollywood Movies”. It’s a zoomed out look at what was produced in this time and taken as a whole, so that’s fun. The Coens just wanted a vehicle to show their love for the aesthetics of this time of Hollywood which, sure, fine. I dig it.
