Serving a dystopian near future United States and a multi-factorial Civil War as a backdrop, I believe the true message of the movie lies in the loss of faith in media and journalism in the United States. Lee, a war photographer veteran, is calloused and cynical to the power her photographs can hold, even stating she believes her career has amounted to nothing since war was brought to her homeland regardless of her efforts. It’s a bold film, stating misinformation and division combined can lead to a future none of us want to imagine.
